Lego Star Wars MTT Review – What You Need To Know
This is a review of the Lego Star Wars MTT -Lego Star Wars 7662
The Lego Star Wars MTT is a Multi-Troop Transport used by the Trade Federation to transport it’s droid troops right into the heat of battle. When it shows up to a fight it’s time for the enemy to start running. With 16 battle ready droids, two security droids, two pilot droids, and a destroyer droid, this droid carrier is a force to be reckoned with.
Containing over 1,300 pieces and weighing in at 4.9 pounds this is one of the sturdiest sets that Lego Star Wars has produced. Though complex and time consuming to build in the end you will be rewarded with an incredible piece of droid technology that is as impressive for display as it is for play. Produced in 2007 the Lego Star Wars MTT set is now a very rare collectors item, ranking up there with the sets like the Imperial Star Destroyer 6211 and the Death Star 10188
What is It?
The Lego Star Wars MTT 7662, produced in 2007, is one of the sturdiest and best built Star Wars Lego sets to date. It is also one of the most sought after sets for collectors as well as for Star Wars and Lego fans. With numerous doors, flaps, and panels the MTT has lots of surprises in store. The back flap can open up to reveal a troop carrier and you can look inside the side panels by turning a gear.
Features:
- Hidden wheels allows it to roll smoothly across the field of battle
- Opening hatches, it extends its hidden storage rack to deploy a legion of deadly battle droids onto the battlefield
- 16 regular battle droids, 2 red security battle droids, 2 blue pilot battle droids and a destroyer droid
- Carrier vehicle stores in the back, and top opens to reveal pilot cabin and steering controls
- Contains 1,326 Pieces
Needless to say the Lego Star Wars MTT is one of the most feature packed sets that Lego Star Wars has released to date
What I Like
This set is a truly impressive piece of Lego craftsmanship. It looks fantastic and all the different moving parts function perfectly (for the most part, this is still Lego!). Many of today’s Lego sets are fairly “weak” and tend to break quite easily. The MTT is built just like it’s on-screen counterpart, tough. That’s not to say you should throw it against the wall but it will survive you picking it up which is more than I can say for some of my recent builds. This set also comes with an impressive number of droids, 20 plus a Droideka, so if you’re looking to bolster the numbers of your droid army then The Lego Star Wars MTT is a perfect set for you.
What I Didn’t Like
Although I didn’t experience it there have been reports of pieces of Lego missing from the MTT box, luckily this can be easily overcome by contacting the Lego Missing
Pieces Department (they should have a TV show) at Lego Customer Support. The front laser cannons also tend to wiggle loose every now and then.
Unfortunately, because this is now a fairly rare collectors item the price reflects this so if you aren’t a serious Lego and Star Wars fan then the MTT might not be for you.
Overall Thoughts
The Lego Star Wars MTT 7662 is one of my favorite sets and it sits proudly with nest to Imperial Star Destroyer 6211 and Death Star 10188. It’s a complex project for a confident Lego builder. If you are a fan of well built Lego sets and you love Star Wars then I highly recommend the Lego Star Wars 7662 – MTT. If you’re a beginner builder than I recommend that you start with something smaller like Emperor Palpatine’s Shuttle 8096
As a discontinued set the price is only going to keep rising as sets disappear so if you’re interested in purchasing this set be sure to act fast.
